In midfield, players like Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, and Michael Carrick were each left out, whilst the Irishman also left himself out.
Many will instantly think of the era of Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke when thinking of Manchester United strikers, but both of these were left out, as were Eric Cantona, Ruud Van Nistlerooy, Dimitar Berbatov, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Teddy Sheringham.
Edwin Van der Sar or David de Gea could have perhaps been a shout in goal, too.
Clearly, United has had a lot of talent over the decades, but they look anything but world-class at the moment.
