Player ratings: Man Utd 5-0 RB Leipzig

Manchester United have a firm hand on Group H of this season”s Champions League group stage with a 5-0 hammering of RB Leipzig at Old Trafford this evening.

Substitute Marcus Rashford helped himself to a second half hat-trick as we followed up last week’s impressive 2-1 win at Paris Saint-Germain with another win.

The German opposition had been missing a few starters but the likes of Dayot Upamercano and Ibrahima Konate were no match to our attack.

Here are my player ratings from Manchester United 5-0 RB Lepizig:

David de Gea 7 – Made one decent save from a long range attempt but otherwise a fairly quiet evening for David de Gea.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 7 – Strong game defensively up against Angelino whilst didn’t get too far forward very often himself.

Victor Lindelof 8 – A good performance from our defence to keep two clean sheets in the space of a week. Neither Yussuf Poulsen nor Emil Forsberg produced a single effort on target.

Harry Maguire 8 – Made a number of clearances but never under too much pressure as the visitors had little luck versus our back four.

Luke Shaw 8 – The busiest of our defenders, Luke Shaw largely dealt well with Benjamin Henrichs. Shaw also put a few crosses in from down the left.

Nemanja Matic 8 – Solid in protecting the back four at the base of our 4-4-2 diamond formation. Nemanja Matic didn’t actually see too much of the ball as he used to but broke up RB Leipzig’s possession a number of times when they were poised to cause a threat.

Fred 8 – Another good performance from the Brazilian in the middle of the park as Fred helped win the ball back for our side and start attacks. Looked keen to get among the goals himself.

Paul Pogba 8 – RB Leipzig were keen to foul Paul Pogba but the midfielder kept his cool, used the ball well and got an assist in a busy performance.

Donny van de Beek 7 – Not too much of note from the summer signing. Donny van de Beek looked after the ball well, creating the odd opportunity.

Anthony Martial 9 – Was a nuisance to Julian Nagelsmann’s defence all night, grabbed a goal and assist alongside Mason Greenwood and later Rashford up front.

Mason Greenwood 8 – A fine strike to give us the lead before being replaced on the hour at 1-0. The youngster didn’t get involved in the game too greatly, largely relying on supply.

Substitutes

Marcus Rashford (29 mins) 10 – An incredible half hour performance from Marcus Rashford who bagged a hat-trick from three shots on target after replacing Mason Greenwood. The striker made the highly-rated Dayot Upamercano look sub-par as he kept getting in beyond the centre-back.

Scott McTominay (29 mins) 7 – Came on at a good time as we started dominating possession and scoring. Scott McTominay had little defensive work to do.

Bruno Fernandes (24 mins) 8 – Superb first time assist to play Marcus Rashford in for our second goal. The quick-thinking of the Portuguese star was hugely influential in the final 25 minutes of this game.

Edinson Cavani (11 mins) N/A – Introduced at 3-0 but failed to get among the goals nor get too many touches of the ball unfortunately.

Axel Tuanzebe (11 mins) N/A – The five substitution real in the Champions League allowed Ole to rest a few more players in the second half with Sunday’s game against Arsenal in mind.
