Player Ratings: Brighton 2-3 Man Utd

Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty in the 100th minute, five minutes after we conceded a stoppage time equaliser as Manchester United beat Brighton & Hove Albion 3-2 at the AMEX Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

The full-time whistle had been blown at 2-2 before the referee went over to the monitor to give us a penalty. Bruno Fernandes then stepped up in the 100th minute to score a dramatic winner.

The hosts took the lead through a 40th minute penalty conceded by Bruno Fernandes but we were quickly back on level terms through a Lewis Dunk own goal.

Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford both had goals ruled out whilst Brighton had a second penalty overturned by VAR, before Rashford gave us the lead 10 minutes into the second half.

Solly March terrorised us during the second half before popping up at the back post to head home from close range to equalise in the 95th minute.

There was still more drama to come though as Harry Maguire’s header came off the arm of Neal Maupay. Although the whistle went straight after, the referee was alerted to the handball and awarded the penalty after checking with VAR, from which Bruno converted the winner.

Here are my player ratings from Brighton 3-2 Manchester United:

David de Gea 6 – Conceded from the penalty spot but otherwise didn’t have much to do today until a big save in stoppage time. No chance with the late goal. Brighton hit the frame of the goal five times during the 90 minutes.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 5– Solly March caused our right-back a lot of problems at times before finally getting his first goal in 18 months. Aaron Wan-Bissaka made a couple of solid tackles but lacked support from Mason Greenwood in front of him.

Victor Lindelof 7 – The busier of our two centre-backs, Victor Lindelof broke up a few attacks and made a number of clearances.

Harry Maguire 6 – Brighton didn’t have too many efforts on target in open play.

Luke Shaw 6 – Leandro Trossard caused Luke Shaw a lot of problems in the first half and struck the frame of the goal on three separate occasions.

Nemanja Matic 7 – Solid game in the middle of the park to break up Brighton’s possession and start attacks of our own.

Paul Pogba 5 – Offered very little before being taken off just after the hour. VAR bailed Paul Pogba out of conceding a penalty early in the second half.

Mason Greenwood 5 – Had a goal disallowed but otherwise wasn’t a huge impact from down the right wing. Mason Greenwood looked after the ball well without creating anything. Didn’t do a lot of defending either.

Bruno Fernandes 6– Conceded the penalty from which the hosts opened the scoring. Bruno Fernandes set up Marcus Rashford’s goal early in the second half. Kept his nerve to score the 100th minute penalty.

Marcus Rashford 6– Was kept quiet for most of the game by Tariq Lamptey down the left wing but Marcus Rashford did score the all important goal.

Anthony Martial 5 – Very little support and barely saw any of the ball let alone being able to get a shot in.

Fred (27 mins) 6 – Replaced Paul Pogba in a more defensive move.

Eric Bailly (9 mins) N/A – Brought on to help see out the win, allowing Aaron Wan-Bissaka to sit on Solly March, who had been causing a lot of problems in the final half hour.

Donny van de Beek (1 minute) N/A – Brought on in stoppage time and was on the field as we won the game dramatically.
