Manchester United have booked our place in the fourth round of this season’s EFL Cup with a comfortable 3-0 win at Championship leaders Luton Town.
Juan Mata opened the scoring minutes before half-time from the penalty spot after a foolish challenge in the box on Brendan Williams.
The game saw starts for Dean Henderson and Donny van de Beek. The former had one notable save to make in the second half, denying a close range header at his near post, whilst our summer signing forced one good save out of the opponents’ goalkeeper.
Luton fans had been hopeful of an upset after winning their two opening Championship games to nil, whilst many fans consider the empty stadium to have the same atmosphere as a typical Kenilworth Road atmosphere pre-pandemic.
However, an upset never looked on the cards and we put the game beyond reach for the minnows with Marcus Rashford coolly passing the ball beyond the Luton goalkeeper following a great passing move with three minutes to go.
There was still time for fellow substitute Mason Greenwood to roll the ball past the hopeless goalkeeper with an effort that you’d expect every professional to save.
