Henderson signs new long-term deal

Dean Henderson has signed a new five-year deal with Manchester United to compete for the number one spot with David de Gea next season.

We have the option to extend the deal for a further year beyond 2025 too, as confirmed on our official website.

The goalkeeper was recently named in the England squad for the upcoming September internationals.

Henderson has spent the past two seasons on loan at Sheffield United, first helping them to a surprise promotion from the Championship, followed up by a surprise top half finish in the Premier League this past season.

The 23-year-old kept 13 clean sheets in the progress, impressing several pundits and the Manchester United staff.

The length of the contract suggests that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co see Henderson as the long-term successor of David de Gea.

With de Gea continually inconsistent, Dean Henderson is expected to compete for the number one spot ahead of our 2020-21 Premier League season opener versus Crystal Palace on 19 September.

We still have Sergio Romero on the books but the Argentine is widely-expected to be moved on this summer, whilst Lee Grant has one year remaining on his deal at Old Trafford.
