Manchester United youngster Tahith Chong will spend the 2020-21 season on loan in the German Bundesliga with Werder Bremen.
The 20-year-old winger made three substitute appearances combining for just 34 minutes in the Premier League this past season. He has started twice in the Europa League, as well as once each in the FA and League Cups.
Germany has been a good breeding ground for young English teams over the past couple of years and this loan deal could certainly benefit both Manchester United and Tahith Chong for the future.
Chong is a skillful wide man who would have struggled for game time next season with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Juan Mata and Daniel James to compete with at Old Trafford. There’s probably more chance of winning a game of poker than Chong becoming a regular in the Manchester United team this season.
Werder Bremen only narrowly avoided relegation from the top flight this past season, winning their final game of the season to move out of the automatic relegation places, and then defeating FC Heidenheim on away goals in the promotion/relegation play-off.
Milot Rashica was Werder’s joint top scorer from down the left wing with eight goals this past season. The Kosovan has been linked with a move away from the Weser Stadium this summer. This would be very beneficial for Tahith Chong in terms of becoming a regular next season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is confident of Chong’s future with the Red Devils, quoted on the official website as saying:
“We are pleased with the progress Tahith has made since he stepped up from the Academy and are looking forward to continuing to develop his talent. He has great potential; given his age, ability and work-ethic, we can see that he has a bright future at Manchester United.“
