Manchester United ran out emphatic 5-0 winners away to LASK in Austria in the first leg of our Europa League Round of 16 tie in front of an empty stadium on Thursday evening.
Odion Ighalo have given us a 1-0 first half lead with a fine solo effort from 18 yards before Daniel James doubled our lead just before the hour when he cut inside two defenders from the left wing and finished into the bottom corner of the goal from 16 yards.
Juan Mata appeared to put the tie to bed in the final 10 minutes with a well-time run to latch onto Fred’s excellent through ball and finish one-on-one. However, there was still time for substitutes Mason Greenwood and Andreas Pereira to get their names on the scoresheet. Greenwood was played in one-on-one by Tahith Chong before powering his low effort in on the post. Pereira’s goal was a hopeful 35-yard effort that managed to catch out goalkeeper Alexander Schlager.
The second leg is scheduled for Thursday 19 March but UEFA are set to have a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the future of both this season’s Champions League and Europa League following the current coronavirus pandemic.
