Teenager gets full Man Utd debut

19-year-old Brandon Williams has been handed his full Manchester United debut away to AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League this evening.

The full-back made his debut last week during our EFL Cup win over Rochdale as a substitute for the injured Phil Jones, playing 51 minutes.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer then named Williams among the substitutes for Monday night’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal in the Premier League after Axel Tuanzebe was promoted to the starting lineup following Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s illness.

It seems likely that Brandon Williams will start at left-back with Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo in the centre and Diogo Dalot on the right.

The starting lineup named by Ole for this evening’s game is as follows:

David de Gea; Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo, Brandon Williams; Fred, Nemanja Matic, Daniel James, Juan Mata, Angel Gomes; Mason Greenwood

Brandon Williams is a year older than Mason Greenwood, who starts up front for us again. The recently-turned 18-year-old scored the only goal of the game in our 1-0 win over Astana two weeks ago.

AZ Alkmaar were held 2-2 away to Red Star Belgrade in their first group game but do sit third in the Dutch Eredivisie, only one point behind the joint leaders Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.

This evening’s game will be played at ADO den Haag’s Cars Jeans Stadion as AZ’s stadium suffered damage earlier in the season.
