Player ratings: West Ham 2-0 Man Utd

Manchester United were poor in defeat at West Ham United on Sunday.

The Hammers scored goals in each half through Andriy Yarmolenko and Aaron Cresswell, whilst both Harry Maguire and Juan Mata missed excellent close-range opportunities for us at 0-1.

Here are how our players fared:

David de Gea 5 – Wasn’t given a chance for West Ham’s opening goal but could have got a stronger hand on Creswell’s free kick that secured the home side’s three points.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 7 – The youngster was solid at right-back in winning the ball back for his side and positioning himself well. Aaron Wan-Bissaka offered width down the right wing on attacks but was little in the way of movement from his teammates.

Victor Lindelof 6 – Not involved in either goal but was below par in possession and bringing the ball forward today. Victor Lindelof was not on his game.

Harry Maguire 5 – Caught flat footed for West Ham’s opener and missed an excellent opportunity to equalise inside the six-yard box.

Ashley Young 5 – Struggled defensively and offered little going forward.

Nemanja Matic 4 – Was poor in protecting our back four and gave away possession inside his own half too many times. Nemanja Matic continues to look like a shadow of his former self.

Scott McTominay 5 – Pushed forward to offer support in attack and was positive-minded with his forward passes but nothing came of it.

Andreas Pereira 6 – Covered a lot of ground and got stuck in. Andreas Pereira found some useful positions and played a couple of nice passes in West Ham’s final third.

Juan Mata 4 – Wasn’t the Juan Mata we used to see. The Spaniard was poor in his passing, often playing passes too short to end attacks. Missed a glorious chance to equalise shortly after the break and was largely quiet before being subbed off with 10 minutes to go.

Daniel James 5 – Showed promise at times but not enough. Daniel James had some success running at the West Ham defence but it didn’t lead to anything.

Marcus Rashford 4 – Looked off his game and was never a threat to Lukasz Fabianski’s goal. Pulled up with an apparent thigh injury in the second half.

Jesse Lingard (30 mins) 5 – Made some good runs off the ball but wasn’t supplied the ball in a dangerous position after replacing the injured Rashford to play up front for United.

Fred (20 mins) 5 – Replaced Nemanja Matic but didn’t offer anything more positive. Fred conceded possession too often in the opposition half as the Brazilian looked desperate to make something happen.

Angel Gomes (10 mins) N/A – Brought on late on as an act of desperation but it was too little time for Angel Gomes to make an impact.
