Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been named in the England squad for the first time.
The 21-year-old arrived in a £50 million transfer from Crystal Palace over the summer after representing the England Under-21s at the European Championships in Italy and San Marino.
Wan-Bissaka looked impressive in his opening two matches against Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers, where the only goal we conceded was a wonder strike from Ruben Neves. Less can be said about the performance against his former club last weekend.
Defensively, we’ve certainly upgraded in his position this season. However, Wan-Bissaka clearly lacks confidence with the ball in the final third. Perhaps it’s due to a lack of experience here given who he was playing for last season. With time, I am sure he will improve in this area in becoming one of the best full-backs in the league.
Gareth Southgate has named the youngster as part of his 25-man squad to face Bulgaria and Kosovo in Euro 2020 qualifying next month. Both games are at Wembley Stadium. Wan-Bissaka is joined by teammates and England regulars Harry Maguire, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford.
