Chelsea will be without four players when they travel to Old Trafford on Sunday to take on Manchester United in their opening game of the 2019-20 Premier League season.
Frank Lampard will be taking charge of the Blues for the first time having being appointed as Maurizio Sarri’s replacement at Stamford Bridge after guiding Derby County to the Championship playoff final last season.
The former England midfielder saw his side sell superstar Eden Hazard to Real Madrid over the summer, whilst a FIFA transfer embargo has prevented the West London club from making any signings. They had already agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund for Christian Pulisic in January, so the American could be in line to make his debut versus us.
Chelsea sold centre-back David Luiz to Arsenal on transfer deadline day and will also be without Antonio Rudiger through injury as confirmed a the club’s pre-match press conference this morning. This means Frank Lampard is likely to choose between Andreas Christensen, Kurt Zouma or Fikayo Tomori to play centre-back in his back four.
The new Chelsea manager is expected to blood a number of youngsters this season so don’t be surprised if Tomori starts at Old Trafford having impressed under Lampard at Derby last season.
One youngster that won’t face us is right-back Reece James as the youngster is also sidelined.
Chelsea are also without exciting midfielders Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who are both sidelined for several months.
Manchester United welcome the West London side to Old Trafford at 16:30 GMT on Sunday.
