4-3-3: Man Utd predicted XI to face Chelsea

Manchester United kick off our 2019-20 Premier League campaign at home to Chelsea on Sunday.

The visitors travel to Old Trafford with Frank Lampard in charge for the first time. The former Chelsea midfielder replaced Maurizio Sarri earlier in the summer after taking Derby County to the Championship playoff final in his first season as a manager.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has three new signings all available to be handed their debut in our opening match of the new season.

Here is the Manchester United team I think the boss will start with on Sunday:

Goalkeeper: David de Gea
The Spaniard remains at the club and will be our number one again this season. David de Gea ended last season badly but hopefully a summer break will see the 28-year-old return to his best. How busy he will be on Sunday remains to be seen as Chelsea sold Eden Hazard to Real Madrid during the summer transfer window and look quite limited in attack.

Defence: Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw
Harry Maguire should be handed his debut in our back four despite only signing last week. The England international has been one of the best defenders in the world over the past two seasons with Leicester City and is now stepping up to the big time. Victor Lindelof was very good last season so hopefully this has the making of a successful defence. Antonio Valencia departed over the summer so new signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be our regular starter at right-back, whilst Luke Shaw has made the opposite flank his own.

Midfield: Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba
Paul Pogba missed our final pre-season friendly against AC Milan but the French international is almost certain to start the season opener. It was a little disappointing we didn’t bring in a new holding midfielder so I think Nemanja Matic will face his former club despite a below par campaign last year. We didn’t replace the departed Ander Herrera so Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira could see a lot more action this season.

Attack: Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial
Ole likes Jesse Lingard so I see the hardworking midfielder playing down the right wing on Sunday. His off the ball work would be a better option than Juan Mata here as Lampard likes his sides to see more of the possession and attack. Romelu Lukaku’s departure to Internazionale means Marcus Rashford will be our regular starter up front this season whilst Anthony Martial’s good pre-season should see him start down the left.

Here is our team on paper:
