Manchester United have confirmed that Axel Tuanzebe has committed his future at Old Trafford for a further three years.
The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan to Aston Villa where he formed a solid partnership with Tyrone Mings as the West Midlands club gained promotion back to the Premier League.
Our youth academy made his senior debut for us in 2017 but was never able to hold a regular place down in the first team.
Tuanzebe may have a better chance of making more appearances in the upcoming 2019-20 campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The boss gave a number of youngsters an opportunity last season and both of his summer signings to date have been 21 years old.
Solskjaer had the following to say about Tuanzebe to MUTV:
“Axel is a great example of the type of player that has come through the Manchester United system. He is humble, hard-working, talented and a team player.
“He had a successful time on loan with Aston Villa and has gained a lot of experience from that spell, which ended in promotion to the Premier League. He will come on the pre-season tour with us which will help his development further.”
Axel Tuanzebe can play both centre-back and right-back. Following the departure of Antonio Valencia, Tuanzebe could find himself backup to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
