Manchester United will enter into the winter transfer window in pursuit of a good defender to help strengthen Ole Gunnar Solskjaer team as they hope to finish in top-four.
The Red Devils have been connected with a transfer for Roma central defender Kostas Manolas.
The Greece international centre-half moved to Italy back in 2014 and he’s since made 192 appearances for the Serie A giants in all competitions, sealing his place as one of the best central defenders throughout the entire Europe.
The Blues were set to trigger his £34million buy out clause, as per reports emanating from Italy, while North London giants Arsenal were also interested.
But Manchester United seem to be interested in steal a march and pay that release clause, as per a report by Tutto Mercato Web.
The 27-year-old defender has been with the side for about four seasons and has since established himself as one of Serie A’s most reliable centre-halves.
The Red Devils have been strongly connected linked with Tottenham HotSpurs defenders Toby Alderweireld, while Leicester’s Harry Maguire and Kalidou Koulibaly have also been mentioned at targets at Old Trafford.
Also, Premier League rivals Chelsea have allegedly tabled an offer to activate the £99million buyout clause of Inter Milan forward and Manchester United target Mauro Icardi.
The Argentine international striker has been very prolific during his playing time in Italy and sources in Rome now claim he could be poised for discussions over a transfer to Chelsea.
Icardi was also linked with a move to Manchester United in December, but it looks like Chelsea might now be ahead of them in the running for his sevice.
