Talks Ongoing to replace Paul Pogba as Man United revive interest in 22-year-old midfielder

According to reports, Premier League giants Manchester United could make a winter move for AS Roma youngster Lorenzo Pellegrini, after displaying interest in the Italian starlet during the summer.

Manchester United are prepared for a hectic Januarry transfer window after a poor start to the 2018-19 campaign, which culminated in a 3-1 loss against rivals Manchester City on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium, leaving them 12 points adrift in the English Premier League title race.

Man United boss Jose Mourinho targeted numerous players during the last transfer window but could only sign Brazil international midfielder Fred from Ukranian side Shakhtar Donetsk, Diogo Dalot from Portuguese side FC Porto and goalkeeper Lee Grant from English side Stoke City, none of whom have had a major impact at the club this season.

Former Chelsea and Real Madrid tactician has expressed his intent to sign major reinforcements in january – according to the Daily Mail – and one player topping his list is Pellegrini, who he has been eyeing since the summer.

As per Sky Sports, the Red Devils had been monitoring him before the new season started and may reignite their interest in the midfielder next year.

The starlet has been a major bright spark in Italy this season and already has played 50 matches at the Stadio Olimpico, 18 months from his transfer from Sampdoria.

The Italian plays best in the number 8 position and has a fantastic passing range, along with the superb ability to read the game pretty well and a good penchant for intercepting play.

He could fit nicely into Jose Mourinho’s set up at United, with the Red Devils presently struggling for creativity in midfield and the ex-Sampdoria star might fancy testing himself in a more competitive league in Europe.
