According to widespread media reports, Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea are among the big names allegedly set to fight it out for the move of Real Madrid defender Alvaro Odriozola.
The 22-year-old right-back has extremely struggled to establish himself since joining Real Madrid from La Liga side Real Sociedad in the summer transfer window and may now be made available, as per sources in Spain.
Don Balon suggest Real Madrid could accept about €40million for Alvaro Odriozola after his lack of meaningful impact at the side so far, with the Red Devils and the Blues named as being among his fans, along with other English Premier League sides like Tottenham Hotspurs, Manchester City, and West Ham United.
From Manchester United’s viewpoint, Alvaro Odriozola could well be a great signing for a reasonable transfer fee to come in as a replacement on a long-term for the off-form and ageing Antonio Valencia.
Diogo Dalot was also brought in at right full-back position in the summer transfer window but hasn’t played a good deal yet, most possibly due to his inexperience and age.
For the Blues, Alvaro Odriozola could be a smart move to reinforce the right-back department after Victor Moses’ dropped down the pecking order since Italian tactician Maurizio Sarri took over at Chelsea.
Spain international defender Cesar Azpilicueta now seems to be a prime choice in that position, but the experienced Premier League defender has operated in a number of positions in his time with Chelsea and arguably seems more suited to something a bit more central, with Alvaro Odriozola a naturally attacking player down the side.
