According to Sky Sports Sources, Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has turned down latest contract offer but negotiations will continue in chase of an agreement.
The Red Devils want the France international forward to commit to a fresh long-term contract, with his present terms running out next summer and an option to extend only available for another year until 2020.
Talks have been progressing since a summer window in which Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho was ready to part with the youngster, and his representative publicly admitted the Frenchman wanted to depart the club.
The Manchester United Chief have been ‘hell bent’ to keep the exciting winger, believing the player still has a lot to offer the club on the pitch of play, and fearing the forward could fulfil his huge potential somewhere else, having made Martial, 22, the world’s most costly teenager in a transfer deal from French Ligue 1 side Monaco that could further rise to about £58million.
The flying winger has been unable to properly establish himself in Jose Mourinho’s first-team so far this campaign, however, making only four English Premier League starts for the side, yet he has netted three goals in six Premier league matches in all and just once in his three UEFA Champions League matches.
Brought in back in the summer of 2015 after numerous interest from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, the forward made a bright start to his Old Trafford United career under former tactician Louis van Gaal by netting 17 goals in his first campaign.
But Martial netted only four League goals the following season and nine in the Premier League last term, as he heavily struggled to seal a regular spot in Jose Mourinho’s team.
