Manchester United manager JOSE MOURINHO has been heavily praised for calling out left-back Luke Shaw for being unfit.
The Portuguese tactician publicly slammed the defender for being out of shape and the former Chelsea manager ordered the full-back to lose weight.
Sky Sports football analyst Mark Schwarzer, who worked with Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge, says tactician would have taken Luke Shaw aside privately to talk about the matter.
Only when the defender refused to yield advice would the manager have gone public but the mind-games strategy has worked.
The defender is now in favour at Old Trafford he’s been given a new five-year deal and is back in manager Gareth Southgate’s England set up.
Mark Schwarzer told Sky Sports that head coach Jose Mourinho deserve some credit for turning Shaw around.
The full-back was heavily criticized by Dutch tactician Louis van Gaal during his managerial stay at Old Trafford too but the former Chelsea goalkeeper believes he will now be in the Coach’s’ good books – provided he remains in shape.
The England international defender has made a promising Premier League start this term despite United’s struggles in defence this campaign so far after conceding about 13 goals in eight matches.
Luke Shaw has found it hard to hold down a starting shirt in Jose Mourinho’s squad over the past 2 years or so, but the manager looks to have had a change of mind with regards to the full-back.
Shaw, 23, netted in Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over former champions Leicester City in their opening fixture of the Premier League to help his side make a winning start to the campaign.
