Manchester United star Anthony Martial is still keen on leaving old Trafford at the end of the current campaign despite the team’s renewed attempt to tie him down to a fresh contract, according to reports.
Sources disclosed during the week that the Red Devils were increasingly confident the forward would pen a new five-year contract, but he still has worries about his Old Trafford future.
Head Coach Jose Mourinho does not see him as part of his long-term plans, as the Frenchman has struggled to keep a regular starting place in the team.
Three League starts this term for him has yielded only a goal prior to the Chelsea game, but that lone goal did come at an important moment in the 3-2 comeback victory over Newcastle United before the FIFA international break.
Reports suggest Anthony Martial has not changed his stance about wanting to leave Old Trafford, and presently has no plans to renew his deal. The 22-year-old has a year option in his existing contract, which the Red Devils can trigger if he refuses to sign a new deal.
The representative of the France international forward declared in the summer the attacker was open to a transfer away from the Premier League club, but latest reports indicate Manchester United saw that as an attempt to accelerate contract negotiations.
Martial has been constantly linked with a number of other clubs including Arsenal and Chelsea. Jose Mourinho’s efforts to sell Martial last summer were completely blocked by club hierarchies, who regard him as a key player in the team.
