Tough defender reflects on United deal

After the transfer pursuit of defence maestro collapsed, Deigo Godin has come out with his reason for not joining United.

United were interested in adding an experienced defender before the window closed last week but all deal fails to materialized which have baffled Mourinho and put him at logger heads with the clubs hierarchy.

Godin was one of the top defenders identified by Mourinho to help shore up the back. The player gave personal reasons as his decision not to jump ship.

According to skysports, when quizzed after Atletico Madrid Supercup victory over Real Madrid, the player opened up  “I have not renewed,” Godin said. “I have had offers, although I have decided to stay for personal reasons, and I am only thinking about the final.

“But I have not extended my contract. I saw that news came out but I do not know where it came from.”

The player has been accused of using United’s move to secure new improved deal with Atletico Madrid of which he vehemently denied.

It was reported that United were ready to pay Godin £8m per year in salary and put together an offer for the agent to take to the Atletico Madrid board.
