Manchester United confirms deal for defender

Manchester United has confirmed the transfer of Dutch defender Daley Blind to Ajax for a fee of £14m.

The 28 years old versatile defender who was signed by Louis Van Gal in 2014 registered 141 appearances in all competitions for United and won the Europa League, FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield.

The player just had 17 appearances last season as Jose Mourinho reinforced his backline with Eric Bailey which restricted his playing time. The Serbian International Nemanja Matic also restricted his role in the defensive midfield position

According to Daily mail, the deal might likely rise to £18m with add ons of around £4m.

The defender will always remember the UEFA Europa League triumph against his former team Ajax in Stockhom. He is widely regarded as an Ajax man as he started his playing career with the club

The player quickly took to twitter to  appreciate his time with United:

“I want to thank everyone, the Managers, coaches, the medical department, everyone who helped me to settle in so quick at the beginning, of course my teammates and last but definitely not least the fans!”

“I want to thank you for all the love and support I received and still get. I will never forget some of the special games and moments, I will miss you ‘The Theatre of Dreams’! But now its time to go home”
