Manchester United have reignite interest in Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic as a permanent replacement for team captain Michael Carrick.
The 36-year old midfielder is at the twilight of his career and could hang his boot for managerial role at the end of the season.
Jose Mourinho promised the veteran midfielder a place on his coaching staff at Manchester United when he decides to hang his boot.
The Portuguese tactician is already planning for life without Carrick and has identified Kovacic as a potential replacement according to the Mirror.
The 23-year old star is currently out of favour in Zinedine Zidane star studded team.
The Croatian has managed to play a bit role for the La Liga giants this season and he is behind Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in Madrid order.
Madrid are making plans to bring Premier league trio of Eden Hazard, Harry Kane and David de Gea to Santiago Bernabeu next summer.
This means they will have to sell some players in order to balance their books and not fall under FIFA financial fail play hammer.
Keylor Navas and Kovacic are likely going to exit Madrid next summer having struggled to make key impact this season according to Daily Star.
The Red Devils are also in the race to sign Ligue One star Jean-Michael Seri and had reportedly given up in the race to sign Arsenal’s Star Mesut Ozil.
