Manchester United have been handed massive blow in their quest to bring Barcelona versatile star Sergi Roberto to Old Trafford.
According to report, the Spain international left-back has agreed a new contract term with Barcelona that will keep him at Camp Nou until 2022.
The Red Devils have been linked with a move for Roberto since last year, but he will be going nowhere for a foreseeable future.
Jose wants to strengthen his right-back position and tipped the Spaniard as a possible signing.
The Catalan club confirmed the news via their official website and it reads:
“FC Barcelona and Sergi Roberto have reached an agreement on a contract renewal, which will keep the player at the Camp Nou through to 30 June 2022. His buyout clause has been set at €500m.”
The 25 year old star joined the Barcelona academy at the age of 14 and has progressed through their ranks to the senor team.
He made his first debut for the senior team in November 2010 as a second half substitute in Barcelona’s 5-1 thump over AD Ceuta in a Capa del Rey game.
The fullback/midfielder has henceforth made over 170 appearance in the Catalan club jersey.
Since the departure of Brazilian star Dani Alves, the Spaniard game time has increased.
He is currently ahead of summer signing Nelson Semedo in Ernesto Valverde’s order. The 25 year old has made a total of 25 appearances so far this term
The contract renewal for Roberto follows the announcement of Gerard Piqué’s extension, announced on Thursday.
