Manchester United may have to look elsewhere for a new midfielder as January target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has ruled out prospect of leaving Lazio in January.
Jose Mourinho is desperately keen on strengthening his midfield in January with Micheal Carrick, Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini likely to leave Old Trafford next summer.
The 22-year old star is high on the Portuguese tactician wanted list after watching him in action earlier in the season and now want to sanction a move for his signature.
Manchester United were thought to be preparing a £95m move for the talented midfielder services but that possibility has been ruled out after the Serbia international insisted he will remain at Stadio Olimpico to further his career.
Specking to Novosti as reported by Metro, the sensational player reveals reasons why a move to United will not be possible.
‘I am focused only on Lazio,’ he told Novosti.
‘This season, Serie A has improved significantly, as you can see by the fact all the clubs are still in the Champions League or Europa League.
‘As a club, we have a clear goal of a top four position, because that gives qualification to the Champions League from next season. That is a really big challenge.
‘I am not thinking about leaving Lazio, because I am currently very happy in Rome.
‘It means a lot to have Vanja close to me. We support and strive to motivate each other. We play in one of the strongest leagues in Europe and we’re proud for each other.’
Report elsewhere has it that United are preparing offer for Real Madrid midfield Mateo Kovacic this January transfer window.
