Going by reports in the British media today, it is safe to assume Nemanja Matic will be a Manchester United player sometimes this week. According to various reports in the British press today, both Manchester United and Chelsea have agreed a deal said to be worth £40m for the transfer of the former Benfica star.
The Serbian has been linked with a move to Italian champions Juventus but it appears United are the club able to pay the most money.
Chelsea first gave an indication that the 28-year-old will be sold this summer when Matic was dropped from the squad that went on a training tour to Asia. Matic reportedly trained alone at Chelsea’s training ground while he waits for clarity on his future.
It however appears Chelsea and United have now found a middle ground and the deal will finally good through. This report if true will be massive for United. The signing of Matic will give Mourinho the opportunity to play Pogba further up the field in his preferred position. With Matic in the team, Pogba won’t be needed for defensive duties and that should finally get the best out of him.
Although many have criticised the signing especially consider the £40m price tag but I am of the believe that Mourinho is able to get the best out of Matic. Let’s not forget it was he who re-signed him for Chelsea when he returned as their manager the second time. And for the price tag, it is sadly what it is. The market is super inflated and unless UEFA and FIFA step in, there is nothing clubs like Manchester United can do.
If we do not pay £40m for Matic, someone else will and we won’t get the midfielder we desperately need.
