Ibrahimovic To Return For Manchester United Against Liverpool

Manchester United welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford today in a hotly-anticipated clash as the two Premier League giants renew their rivalry.

Jose Mourinho’s in-form side head into the game having won their last six Premier League games in a row and aiming to keep in touch with the leaders at the top of the table.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have gone three games without a win in all competitions and know defeat will see their title hopes fade and leave them a massive eight points behind Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho will make changes to his side after their midweek win over Hull City in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg and will go with his strongest available starting XI.

David de Gea will start in goal with Antonio Valencia at right-back while Marcos Rojo is expected to return from injury to partner the in-form Phil Jones in central defence. The duo have looked assured in recent weeks and appear to be Mourinho’s preferred pairing at present.

Matteo Darmian featured at left-back in midweek but he is likely to be replaced by the more conservative Daley Blind with Mourinho wary against a Liverpool side who are the joint-top scorers in the Premier League so far this season.

Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera will again anchor the midfield with Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Wayne Rooney likely to make up the three ahead of them.

Pogba has been in superb form in recent weeks and his link-up play with Zlatan Ibrahimovic in particular has been a key asset to United’s great form.

Mkhitaryan too is expected to start. His pace and creativity could prove crucial against a Liverpool defence that has looked vulnerable in recent weeks.

Perhaps a surprise inclusion would be Rooney who will be desperate to grab the goal that sends him out on his own as United’s all-time top scorer against Liverpool.

The England captain featured in midweek against Hull City and put in a strong performance, narrowly missing out on breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time goalscoring record, against the Tigers with a cross-shot that missed the post only by inches.

Ahead of them Zlatan Ibrahimovic will return after missing the midweek clash through illness. United’s top scorer with 13 Premier League goals already is the man for the big occasion and with four goals in his last five outings is a player in form.
