Confirmed: Manchester United’s starting XI v Everton

Manchester United confirmed their starting line-up for today’s Premier League clash with Everton at Goodison Park.

Jose Mourinho is desperate to beat an Everton team that sit only a point below them in the Premier League table. United’s last visit to Goodison Park was an emphatic 3 – 0 victory over a year ago. Morgan Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera and Wayne Rooney bagged the goals that day.

It was one of few bright spots during Louis van Gaal’s second and final season in charge; United were a consistent attacking threat for the whole of that ninety minutes.

Unfortunately for Mourinho, while United’s football is far more attractive and pleasing on the eye this season, results haven’t matched the club’s ambitions. Five draws in their last seven games have left United out of the title race before the festive period has begun. All of the teams above United in the table show infinitely more consistent form than they are.

As such, Mourinho and his charges may be forced to radically alter their expectations for this season, with United still in three cup competitions. There’s already a trip to Wembley pencilled in; surely Hull City won’t be able to beat us over two legs?

The prize for the winners is a final against either Liverpool or Southampton. It’s a mouth-watering prospect, facing the club’s biggest rivals should Jurgen Klopp’s men beat the Saints.
