According to reports from the Sun, Manchester United are planning to begin talks with Juan Mata over a new contract.
Mata has proven a big success at Manchester United since his £37 million move from Chelsea in January 2014. The Spaniard is one of the most popular players at Old Trafford with teammates and fans alike.
Despite his exploits over the years though, there were widespread reports that Mata would be on his way out of the club last summer when Jose Mourinho, the man who sold him to United from Chelsea, took over.
The rumours did not come to fruition and Mata established himself as a crucial figure in the United starting lineup under Mourinho. The Spanish international has 5 goals as well as 2 assists in 18 appearances ithis season. A United source told the Sun,
“Juan has been a key part of the team this season, despite a relatively poor start. It was thought his contract talks could wait, but Jose is keen to tie down some of the players whose deals are tuning out.”
