Manchester United are reportedly keeping close tabs on Santos midfielder Thiago Maia. Maia who has also attracted interest from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea is said to be highly rated by Mourinho and that he is ready to make a move for the youngster in the January transfer window.
The 19-year-old is under contract with the Brazilian side until 2019 but it understood that they would be willing to sell their star asset should they receive a substantial offer for the player who is rated at £20 million. With PSG said to be readying £17m offer.
According to the reports although Manchester United are interested in signing Maia but that they have yet to submit a formal offer for the player.
Maia only broke into Santos first team last year but has since gone on to become one of the first names on Dorvial Juniros team sheet. His outstanding passing combined with his terrific reading of the game makes him one of the most promising young midfielders in world football and is a player who could potentially solve Mourinho’s central midfield woes at Old Trafford for years to come.
With Michael Carrick heading towards the latter stages of his footballing career Mourinho is in need of a young player who can take over from Carrick, a player who can move play forward, protect the back four and spread the ball across the pitch and Maia could be the perfect fit.
When it comes to Brazilian footballers it is fair to say that Manchester United haven’t had too much luck in the past. Kleberson, Anderson, Rafael Da Silva and the likes have all been brought to the club but none have done well at Old Trafford but should Mourinho manage to persuade Maia to join him at Old Trafford the fans will be hoping the Santos midfielder will become the first Brazilian hit United ever since.
