Manchester United are currently eyeing up a big money swoop for Bayern Munich star David Alaba, according to reports from the Daily Mirror.
Following the departure of club stalwart Patrice Evra back in 2014, Manchester United spared no expenses in bringing in a quality replacement for the Frenchman by splashing close to £30 million to secure the services of Luke Shaw from Southampton.
Shaw had managed to earn a reputation as one of the best young left-backs in Europe following a couple of fantastic seasons for Southampton and United decided to sign him for a record fee for a teenager.
While Shaw was widely expected to succeed at Old Trafford, things have not quite gone so smoothly for the youngster and he seems to have failed to impress current manager Jose Mourinho.
There have even been suggestions that United could look to cut their losses on Shaw by offloading him during the January transfer window and then bring in a quality candidate to fill in the left-back position at the club.
A host of players have understandably been linked with a move to United over the past few weeks and now according to reports from the Daily Mirror, claims have been made that the Red Devils are currently plotting an ambitious swoop for David Alaba.
Alaba is arguably one of the best full-backs in world football at the moment, having established himself as a key figure of the Bayern Munich side since making his debut for the Bavarian giants in 2009.
Unsurprisingly, Alaba has been a player of desire for a host of top clubs but very few can realistically afford the Austrian international. Financial powerhouses Manchester United are one of those clubs and it is believed that the Premier League side will look to make a big money swoop for the 24-year-old in January, having scouted him during the recent international round of fixtures.
