According to reports from the Daily Mail, Manchester United are plotting a move for Celtic youngster Moussa Dembele.
Dembele was always considered an extremely talented young player during his Fulham days but it has to be said that the striker has taken his game to the next level since joining Scottish giants Celtic this summer for a fee of around £500,000.
Despite his young age, the 20-year-old has already managed to establish himself as a key figure in the Celtic first team and his record of 14 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions can only be described as phenomenal.
With Dembele having proven himself at the biggest stage such as the Champions League, a number of top clubs across Europe are said to be eyeing up a move for the Frenchman and now according to reports from the Daily Mail, Premier League giants Manchester United have been credited with a concrete interest in the youngster.
Manchester United are clearly struggling in attack at the moment and it is expected that manager Jose Mourinho will be looking to bring in a new striker to Old Trafford during the upcoming January transfer window. Now if reports are to be believed, United have identified Dembele as their main target.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is not surprised by such rumors but had insisted that his prized asset would be staying put at Parkhead for the foreseeable future.
The Northern Irishman told talkSPORT, “Him and his agent, they want to learn and they want to develop. They could have gone to a number of clubs in the summer and got way, way more money than up here. But he wants to try and do it the right way.
“He wants to get experiences at a big club, learn, develop and then there probably will be a time when he will move on. In fairness to him, he has been absolutely fantastic. But he signed a four-year deal here and he is only a few months into it.
“We are all realistic here. That was part of my role coming into here, accepting that if you have got top talents they may be here for a couple of years and move on. You have seen it with Wanyama, with Van Dijk and Ki.
“He has only really just come in, he loves it here. It is a huge club, he gets idolised here, he is playing Champions League football and he is really, really enjoying this process of learning and playing for a big club. I’m sure at some point later down the line it may happen, but it is certainly not something we are looking at now.”
Although Rodgers has made it clear that he does not want to sell Dembele anytime soon, fresh reports have emerged recently claiming that United will be looking to tempt Celtic into parting with the youngster by placing a big offer during the upcoming January transfer window.
