Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has stated that there is no chance of Antoine Griezmann joining Manchester United or Real Madrid next summer.
Griezmann has been heavily linked with a move away from the Vicente Calderon for some time now with Manchester United in particular showing keen interest in the Frenchman.
Mourinho was understood to see Griezmann as his next marquee signing at Old Trafford and was prepared to break the world transfer record in an attempt to bring the player to the club, however it now seems as though United’s pursuit of Griezmann has suffered a major setback after Cerezo insisted that the forward will remain at Atletico.
Speaking to Spanish radio station Onda Cero Cerezo said, “I don’t believe that there is any possibility of Griezmann joining Real Madrid or to any other team.” Quote via mirror.
News of Griezmann staying put in Atletico will come as a huge blow to Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho who will have loved to have the Frenchman at old trafford.
The Frenchman’s ability to not only score goals but provide them makes him one of the finest forwards in European football and is a player who would have undoubtedly strengthened Mourinho’s attacking options.
For what United have in numbers going forward they lack ever more so in true genuine quality and in signing Griezmann Mourinho would have been getting a player who could have potentially taken Manchester United onto the next level.
At just twenty five years of age Griezmann is who is about to enter his peak years as a footballer. Mourinho wouldn’t have been getting a player for the future, nor a player whose best days are behind him he would be getting a player ready for the here and now and that is what the Portuguese so desperately needs if he is to take Manchester United back to the top.
