Henrikh Mkhitrayan To Play The ’10’ Role Against Arsenal?

Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has told Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho to play Henrikh Mkhitrayan in his preferred position.

Mkhitaryan who joined United from Borussia Dortmund back in July has barely featured so far this season under Mourinho and was left out of the match day squad to face Swansea City at the liberty stadium by the Portuguese last time out.

Speaking to ESPN Burley stated that felt that Mkhitaryan has been unfairly treated by Mourinho and that he should be picked to play in the more advanced number ten role when selected.

“I would argue that Mkhitaryan, given a chance and longevity, could probably do a good job in that [No.10] role, but that, for some strange reason, doesn’t seem as if it is even going to get off the starters blocks.” He told ESPN

It is no secret that the Armenian has endured a slow start to life at Old Trafford. Arguably the standout performer in the Bundesliga last term Mkhitaryan is yet to be given a proper run of games in the Manchester United side so far this season under Mourinho.  Cameo appearances off the substitutes bench against Hull City and Fenerbache and forty five minutes against Manchester City at Old Trafford is not enough to cast judgement on a player who has played so little football.

Mkhitaryan remains one of the finest midfielders in European football and Arsenal next up on the agenda for United it gives Mourinho a fantastic opportunity to recall Mkhitaryan back into his starting eleven.

In playing against the Gunners he would give united that extra piece of attacking quality in the final third. With the game likely to be a close drawn affair, Mourinho will need a player who can find that decisive pass or wriggle around the opposition to score or provide that match-winning goal and in Mkhiatrayan he has player on his hands who can do just that.

He is a player that badly needs game time and in playing him against the Gunners it could provide Mkhitaryan a perfect opportunity to kick start his footballing career at Old Trafford.
