Three Reasons Why Manchester United Will Make At Least The Top Four This Season

Manchester United were widely tipped as title contenders over the summer after Jose Mourinho was appointed as their manager and also due to the fact that the club had splashed the cash to sign world class players such as Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly.

However, things have not quite panned out the way United would have wanted and after only 11 matches, the title already seems out of reach for the Red Devils.

While it is easy to see that United still do not look like a Championship winning team, claims that they are not even top four material is a bit over the top. Admittedly, United are not playing well at the moment but here are the reasons why we think they will claim a Champions League spot this season.

Squad Strength

United’s extremely expensively assembled side surely must do better than they are at the moment but there is no denying the fact that the Red Devils possess one of the strongest squads in the division overall.

The likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and David De Gea are arguably all world class players, while youngsters such as Marcus Rashford, Memphis Depay, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Eric Bailly possess tremendous potential as well.

None of the aforementioned players are not playing to their full capabilities currently but one can be sure that as the season progresses, the underperforming United stars will be able to find their feet and start showing the undoubted quality present in their lockers.

Presence of Jose Mourinho

Yes, Jose Mourinho has been enduring a terrible past few years in management and some have said that the Portuguese tactician has lost his previously unwavering charm.

However, one should not forget the fact that Mourinho remains one of the best managers in world football at the moment and he will eventually get things right at Old Trafford.

In truth, Mourinho inherited a mess from Louis van Gaal and while the 53-year-old has been given unlimited funds to make things right, he still needs time to properly impart his philosophy at Old Trafford. Once he does so though, United look a shoo-in for a top four finish.

The competition in the Premier League at the moment is fiercer than it has ever been and the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all look better than United at the moment.

However, United are not a million miles away from the top five at the moment and the combined experience of the likes of Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Juan Mata, Michael Carrick and most importantly, Jose Mourinho will surely help the Red Devils ride through their current storm.

There has been an added level of scrutiny on United due to the fact that they spent so much in the transfer market but nonetheless, the Red Devils possess the combined Premier League experience that few other side possess in the division and it would not be a surprise if the fallen giants of English football are able to recover to finish in the top four.
