Wayne Rooney’s days at Old Trafford appear to be numbered after reports emerged that Jose Mournho is planning to sell him at the end of the season.
Rooney was recently dropped from the starting eleven by Mourinho after enduring a difficult start to the new campaign and it now seems as though the Portuguese is ready to sell his skipper.
The 31-year-old’s future at United has been under intense scrutiny for some time now with teams from China and the MLS all showing interest in the forward.
According to the English tabloid newspaper the Daily Express Mourinho no longer see’s Rooney as part of his long term plans at Old Trafford and is prepared to sell Rooney along with seven other first teamers as he bids to shake up his Manchester United squad.
Wayne Rooney is without a doubt one of the greatest players to have ever played for Manchester United but he is no longer the force he once was and if Mourinho is to become a success at United he will need players who are at the top of the their game in the here and now not players whose best footballing days are long behind them.
Now at the age of thirty one Mourinho cannot expect Rooney to be performing at the level he did in his early twenties but he will still expect a certain level of quality from his skipper and we haven’t seen that from Rooney for some time now.
With Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata all now seemingly ahead of Rooney in the pecking order at the club he will undoubtedly find it difficult to earn himself a place back in Mourinho’s starting eleven when everyone is fit. It is clear that the Portuguese no longer sees his skipper as first choice and should he choose to remain at the theatre of dreams he will only tarnish his legacy at the club further.
