Manchester United prepare to square off against rivals Arsenal at Old Trafford following the international break and with manager Jose Mourinho currently facing a bit of an injury crisis, it will be interesting to see what sort of lineup the Portuguese boss decides to go with on the day.
Barring the costly error against Stoke City last month, David De Gea has been in decent form for Manchester United this season and has managed four clean sheets so far.
The Spaniard did not have much to do during the clash against Swansea City last time out but one can be sure that he will be tested by the dangerous Arsenal attacking lineup next Saturday.
Manchester United’s backline has been ravaged by injury and now with Chris Smalling being out for at least a month due to a broken toe, the Red Devils are without the services of three of their first choice defenders.
Along with Smalling, the likes of Eric Bailly and Antonio Valencia remain ruled out while Luke Shaw also is a doubt. Therefore, the defensive lineup which started against Swansea City could once again feature in the encounter with Arsenal.
Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo look set to occupy positions at centre back and the full back positions are likely to be taken up by Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young. Daley Blind is in contention as well and the Dutchman could replace Young in the lineup if passed fit.
Marouane Fellaini suffered an injury blow while on international duty with Belgium and he is now a doubt against Arsenal. Nonetheless, Ander Herrera is available once again following his suspension and he could well replace the Belgian international in the lineup.
The presence of Michael Carrick in midfield undoubtedly brought about the best of Paul Pogba in the clash against Swansea and the duo are expected to continue in the lineup against Arsenal as well.
In the wide positions, the duo of Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata performed extremely well in the last game and Mourinho may not feel the need to change things around. Jesse Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Memphis Depay provide the options from the bench if things do not quite go according to plan.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is unavailable for the clash against Arsenal after picking up his 5th booking of the season last week and the Swedish international is very likely to be replaced by Marcus Rashford.
Rashford made his name last season by grabbing a fine brace against Arsenal at Old Trafford and the youngster will surely be hopeful of doing the same this time around as well.
