Henrikh Mkhitaryan could reportedly be set to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window after failing to impress new boss Jose Mourinho.
The Armenian who according to reports earns £200,000 a week joined United from Borussia Dortmund back in July but has since only made one start this season under the Portuguese.
The 27-year-old is said to be desperate to stay and prove himself at Old Trafford but it is understood that United would be willing to sell the midfielder should they receive a substantial offer for the player.
Arguably the standout performer in the Bundesliga last term for Borussia Dortmund Mkhitaryan has yet to be given a proper run of games in the Manchester United side so far this season under Jose Mourinho. A cameo against Hull City at the KC stadium and forty five minutes against Manchester City at Old Trafford is not enough to cast judgement on a player who has played so little football.
Few can deny just how talented of a player Mkhitaryan is but with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Ashley Young and Memphis Depay all ahead of the Armenian in the pecking order at the theatre of dreams he will undoubtedly face a tough challenge winning a place back in Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven.
For a player of Mkhitaryan’s quality to be sitting on the substitutes bench every week is not only a crying shame Manchester United but for football in general and with the midfielder looking unlikely to be featuring Mourinho’s first team plans any time soon a move away from Old Trafford may be the best outcome for both parties.
For Mkhitaryan it would be the chance to kick start his footballing career once more and for Manchester United the opportunity to cash in on a player who they seemingly no longer require.
