Manchester United will be looking at taking a step closer to the round of 32 in the Europa League on Thursday night when they take on Turkish giants Fenerbache at Old Trafford.
United go into the game on the back of a 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Anfield whilst Fenerbache were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Alanyaspor.
Mourinho is expected to make several changes for the clash with Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini, and Daley Blind all likely to be dropped from the starting eleven though we reckon Mourinho will stick to the 4-2-3-1 formation he has used all along.
Having missed Mondays night’s clash with Liverpool through injury Anthony Martial is widely expected to be recalled back into the side by Mourinho against Fenerbahce. The Frenchman has yet to hit the ground running so far this season but will no doubt be hoping to take his opportunity with both hands against the Turkish outfit come Thursday.
In the centre of midfield Juan Mata looks set to replace Marouane Fellaini. With Fenerbahce likely to adopt a more defensive formation there will be few if any spaces left on the field for United to do any damage and in Mata the Portuguese has a player on his hands who can unlock defences with his pin-point passing in the tightest of spaces. He is a real asset for Mourinho and is one that he will no doubt look to use to his advantage when he faces Fenerbache at Old Trafford.
At left-back Luke Shaw is widely anticipated to be handed a start by Mourinho. Shaw hasn’t featured for United since suffering a groin tear in the clubs 3-1 defeat to Watford at vicarage road last month but now looks finally set to make a return to the first team against the Turkish giants. In Shaw’s absence Dutchman Daley Blind has proved more than an adequate replacement for Shaw in the starting eleven and should Shaw fail to take his chance against Fenerbache he could find himself out of the starting eleven permanently.
