Morgan Schneiderlin and Anthony Martial were both missing from Manchester United’s squad last night through injury.
It has been confirmed that both Schneiderlin and Martial suffered injuries during training last weekend which meant they missed out on the trip to Anfield yesterday. The French duo haven’t been first team regulars in Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven so far this season.
The full extent of the injuries are yet unknown however Mourinho is expected to give an update on the pair in Wednesday’s pre-match news conference.
In Anthony Martial’s absence from the side youngster Marcus Rashford has excelled out on the left hand side whilst Spaniard Ander Herrera has arguably been United’s stand out performer acting as the holding defensive midfielder.
When fully fit both undoubtedly face a massive challenge winning their way back into Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven. Having been handed several chances to shine earlier on the campaign by the new United boss both have failed to take those opportunities with both hands and as a result have been left sitting on the substitute’s bench.
Few can deny just how talented both Morgan Schneiderlin and Anthony Martial are as footballers but both will have step up and raise their game fast should they wish become a part of Jose Mourinho’s plans at Old Trafford. In Schneidelrin as shown in his Southampton days can be one of the finest central midfielders in the premier league whilst in Martial he is potentially a world beater but they will need to take their chances when given to them by the Portuguese.
Mourinho needs players ready to deliver the goods in the here and now if he is to take Manchester United back to the top. He simply cannot afford any passengers and should Schneiderlin and Martial fail to improve their game they will continue to warm the substitute’s bench.
