Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has fueled speculation of a move to Manchester United next summer after admitting that he has formed a close relationship with Paul Pogba.
The pair spent the summer together representing France at Euro 2016 and have since become best friends. The 25-year-old only recently signed a new deal at Atletico but in that deal a release clause of one hundred million euros was inserted into his contract meaning that should United or any club meet that clause they would be free to speak to the player directly.
Speaking to French publication L’Equipe ( via the sun ) Griezmann admitted that he has a close relationship with Pogba and that he watches him play for Manchester United on a regular basis.
Mourinho is said to see Griezmann as his primary transfer target next summer and would be willing to break the world transfer record once more in an attempt to lure him to Old Trafford.
Griezmanns’s future at Atletico is heavily dependent on whether manager Diego Simone remains at the club. The Argentine has played a key role in Griezmann’s development at the club over the years and should he leave the Vicente Calderon Griezmann may then follow.
Should Mourinho manage to persuade Griezmann to join up with him at Old Trafford he would be getting a player who could potentially take Manchester United onto the next level. His ability to glide past his opponent with ease combined with his excellent finishing makes him one of the finest players in European football and is a player who undoubtedly be an improvement to what the Portuguese already has.
Able to play out on the flanks, in the hole at number ten or as a lone front man up top the Frenchman would offer Mourinho plenty of versatility going forward. There are few players in today’s game of the level of Griezmann’s talent who can offer such versatility and it is that versatility which makes Griezmann such a unique player.
At twenty five years of age Griezmann is about to enter his peaks years as a footballer. Mourinho wouldn’t be buying a player for the future nor a player whose best days are behind him he would be getting a player who will deliver the goods in the here and now and that is what the Portuguese so desperately needs if he is take Manchester United back to the top.
