Having suffered a 1-0 defeat to Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord in the opening game of group A Manchester United will be looking at getting back to winning ways in the Europa League when they face Ukrainian side Zorya Luhnask on Thursday night at Old Trafford.
Mourinho is widely anticipated to stick with his much preferred 4-2-3-1 formation against the Ukrainian outfit with the likes of Wayne Rooney, David De Gea, Antonio Valencia and Paul Pogba all expected to start.
In between the sticks for United will be David De Gea. The Spaniard has started all but one of the Red Devils games so far this season and will no doubt be looking to collect his first clean sheet of the tournament against the Ukrainian side on Thursday night.
At right-back Antonio Valencia will start for Mourinho over Matteo Darmian. The Ecuadorian has enjoyed a fine start the new campaign and will be looking to impress his new boss further when he takes to the field against Zorya. At the heart of United’s defence will be Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling. The pair started alongside last time round against Feyenoord but will be hoping for a better outcome this time round whey they face Zorya, whilst at left-back Daley Blind will be given the nod over Luke Shaw.
Acting as the holding defensive midfielder will be Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian will look to protect the back four and give United that extra aerial advantage in the box when going forward and could prove to be a real nuisance against the Ukrainian side. Alongside the former Everton man Paul Pogba will be given the freedom of the pitch to fully express himself. Pogba is slowly but surely adapting to life at Old Trafford and will no doubt be looking to run the United midfield against the Ukrainian side on Thursday.
Out on the right hand side will be Jesse Lingard. The winger has endured a mixed start to the new campaign but did start against Leicester City in the premier league on Saturday and will be handed another chance to impress against Zorya whilst on the left Juan Mata will be given the nod over Anthony Martial who is yet to recover from his injury sustained at Watford.
Wayne Rooney will be recalled into the starting eleven to play in the more advanced number ten role. The skipper was dropped at the weekend during United’s 4-1 victory over Leicester City but will no doubt be looking to rediscover his form when he faces Zorya at Old Trafford.
Leading the United attack against Zorya will be Marcus Rashford. The youngster has scored three times in his last three appearances for United and will be no doubt looking to add to his goal tally when he faces the Ukrainian outfit on Thursday night.
