Marouane Fellaini To Be Dropped From Jose Mourinho’s Man United 1st Team

Ex-Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has urged Jose Mourinho to drop Marouane Fellaini from his starting eleven after witnessing his former side lose 3-1 against Watford at Vicarage road on Sunday.

Mourinho started Fellaini in a midfield trio alongside the likes of Wayne Rooney and Paul Pogba but the Belgian was not able to make any real impact on the game.

Fellaini has started each of United’s opening five league games thus far but Scholes believes that it is essential that Mourinho drops the Belgian from the starting eleven in order for him to deploy a more fully rounded midfielder in the side.

Speaking to BT Sports after the game Scholes admitted that Fellaini did perform ok against Watford but stated that the club need a lot more than what Fellaini is currently offering for the team to move forward.

There can be little doubt around Old Trafford that Fellaini has looked a far superior player to the one we witnessed under Louis Van Gaal last term, however unfortunately for Fellaini he just doesn’t fit Manchester United and Manchester United do not fit him.

Manchester United have never been a team who play long balls forward up the pitch nor have been a side who rely on a defensive midfielder who is a poor passer of the ball. Over the years United have had the likes of Michael Carrick and Roy Keane dominate the central midfield area allowing Paul Scholes to push on further up the field. Having Fellaini in the side if anything is hindering United’s attacking talent going forward and is preventing Paul Pogba from been able to fully express himself in the midfield.

In the past week against Manchester City at Old Trafford and against Watford on Sunday Fellaini’s weaknesses were fully exploited. United were over ran in the midfield and he was pressured into making mistakes. In the opening three league fixtures against Bournemouth, Southampton and Hull City, Fellaini was given the freedom of the pitch and was barley closed down and pressured when on the ball, he had plenty of time whereas against City and Watford he didn’t and his flaws were once against shown.

On his arrival to the club Jose Mourinho to take Manchester United stated that he needed specialists to take Manchester United back to the top and in Fellaini he is far from a specialists. United are crying out for a player in the calibre of Michael Carrick or Morgan Schneiderlin to come in and settle the midfield down and should Mourinho fail to address that issue results will continue to suffer.
