Liverpool has reportedly made an offer in the region of £30 million for Gremio forward Luan.
The Brazilian’s future at the club has been under intense scrutiny for some time now with the 23-year-old said to be attracting interest from a host of clubs around Europe including Manchester United, however it now appears that Liverpool have made the first move.
Jurgen Klopp is said to be a long term admirer of Luan and sees the forward an ideal candidate to play alongside fellow Brazilians Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino in the starting eleven.
Gremio are desperate to keep hold of their star man but would consider selling the player should any club come in with an offer that meets their requirements.
Speaking to the local press Gremio vice president Alberto Guerra confirmed that should a bid be made for Luan that they would consider it providing it meets their valuation for the player.
Luan has recently been representing his home nation Brazil at the Rio Olympics where forward enjoyed a successful tournament scoring two goals and provided two assists.
News of Liverpool submitting an offer for Luan may now trigger new United boss Jose Mourinho into action. It is no secret that the Portuguese is a fan of the forward and with a little under twenty four hours to go before the summer transfer window slams shut a move for the player could be imminent.
With Jose Mourinho only having Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford as the clubs main out and out front men signing the Brazilian would give the new United boss another option going forward. His impressive displays both at club level at international level have shown that Luan is a real talent and it’s a talent that the Portuguese clearly feels is worth gambling on.
At just twenty three years of age Luan still has his best footballing days ahead of him and should Mourinho manage to persuade the forward to join him at the theatre of dreams he could prove to be a essential part of the Manchester United side not only this season but in years to come.
With the club looking to compete all four fronts this season the Portuguese will no doubt be mixing and changing his squad on a week to week basis. Luan would get his chance at some stage to showcase his footballing ability to Mourinho. He may not necessarily be a first team regular for the new United boss, but he would get chances to impress.
Whether Luan does indeed move across the water or decides to stay in Brazil remains to be seen, however with the clock ticking towards the end of the transfer window there could be yet one more new face walking through the Old Trafford entrance door and that new face may be Luan.
