Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira looks set to be joining La Liga side Granada on a season long loan.
The youngster was not included in Jose Mourinho’s squad for the new campaign with the Portuguese said to be wanting Pereira to go out on loan in order to gain more first team experience.
The 20-year-old had been linked with a host of different clubs most notably Middlesbrough and Fulham, however it now appears that Granada have won the battle for his signature.
Granada only narrowly beat the drop last season and will be now hoping that the news of signing of Pereira can give the team a much needed boost ahead of the new season, as the club aim to climb the La Liga table.
Should Pereira complete his loan move away from Old Trafford he would become the fifth United player to leave the club on loan basis in recent weeks. Camron Borthwick-Jackson, Guillermo Varela, James Wilson and Adnan Januzaj have all left the club as they look to gain more first team experience. Whilst all five may not feature in Mourinho’s plans for the season ahead, all are still said to have a long term future at Old Trafford under the Portuguese.
Pereira has found first team opportunities hard to come by at Old Trafford. Despite impressing frequently for Warren Joyce’s Under-21 side, Pereira has failed to be given a proper run in the United first team.
A move to Granada could be exactly what Pereira needs. Now at the age of twenty one the Brazilian is at that stage of his footballing career where he needs to be playing consistently. For a player so talented to be sitting on a substitute’s bench week in week out is not only a crying shame for Manchester United but for football in general. He needs game time and he just wasn’t going to get at Old Trafford.
In moving to Granada he will be able to further his development not only as a footballer but as a man. Pereira will get the experience of playing in one of the best leagues in world football coming up against some of the very best footballers that the planet has to offer.
For some time now there enormous hype amongst the United faithful surrounding Pereira with the belief that the Brazilian could go on to become a real star. Now he has the chance to show the footballing world exactly what he is all about. Should he succeed at Granada, it may not be too long before we see Andreas Pereira back in a Manchester United shirt.
