5th Summer Signing? Man United Makes £165K/Week Off To Euro 2016 Centre Back

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly made a private phone call to Real Madrid star Raphael Varane in an attempt to persuade the defender to join him at Old Trafford.

The new United boss is said to be offering the Frenchman £165,000 a week to join the club and whilst Real Madrid are desperate not to lose Varane, the player’s head could yet be turned after Mourinho’s private phone call.

According to Spanish radio station COPE, Mourinho made a private phone call to Varane in an attempt to try and convince him to sign for United before the end of the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old still has four more years to run on his current contract at the Bernabeu and whilst the club have no intention of selling their star man, United could still yet make a bid for the player.

Having already had a successful summer bringing in the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Baiily, Mourinho is said to see Varane as his final piece of the jigsaw at Old Trafford.

It is no secret that Mourinho has been on the lookout for a new centre-back in recent weeks. For what United have in numbers at the back, they lack ever more so in genuine quality and in bringing Varane to the club it could solve the Portuguese’s defensive concerns.

At just twenty three years old Varane has yet to enter his peak years as a footballer. His evident world class potential combined with his experience of playing in one of the finest leagues in La Liga makes Varane one of the most sought after centre-backs in Europe and makes it ever more the reason why United are chasing his signature.

Jose Mourinho will know all too well that Varane has the makings of a true world class centre half. Chris Smalling is a very good defender as is new club signing Eric Bailly but none are in the same class as Varane. For a number of years now Manchester United have a lacked a real word class central defender, one which we can really on when it matters most and in Varane he could the man we have been waiting for.

With just days to go before the summer transfer window slams shut it remains to be seen whether United do make an official bid for the player, however one thing cannot be denied. Should Mourinho manage to persuade Varane to swap the Santiago Bernabeu for Old Trafford it would take the Portuguese that one step closer to bringing the Premier League Title back to Manchester United.
