Juan Mata is the latest Manchester United player to take to the club’s Twitter account to address fans who has tickets to today’s cancelled Manchester derby with Manchester City in Beijing. Adverse weather conditions in China made the Bird’s Nest Stadium pitch unplayable.
The Spaniard had this to say: “I know you are all disappointed, so are we. I just wanted to say thank you very much for your amazing support here in China, in Shanghai and now in Beijing. You really love the club, so we are really disappointed because we were looking forward to the game. But I’m sure we’ll be back soon. So thank you very much for your support, and we hope to see you soon.”
United’s number 8, along with Ashley Young and Luke Shaw have addressed fans in an attempt to soothe the disappointment at missing out on today’s game being cancelled. Ticket prices were set between £60 and £300, and whilst all will be refunded, many of the club’s Chinese fans were looking forward to a chance of watching the first Manchester derby to have taken place outside of Britain.
