The first Manchester derby to take place outside of the United Kingdom has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

A statement from Manutd.com reads as follows: “Due to recent weather events, tournament organisers and participating clubs have made the decision to cancel the International Champions Cup fixture to be played in Beijing tonight, 25 July.”

The match between Manchester City and Manchester United was due to take place at 12:30 BST, and was set to be the first meeting between the two clubs to take place on foreign soil.

Instead, Jose Mourinho, who had been critical of the conditions for training in China this past week, and his squad will fly back to Manchester today to continue pre-season preparations at Carrington, ahead of a meeting with Galatasaray in Sweden this coming Saturday. The match should be Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s first in a red shirt, with the Swede due to meet up with the first team in the coming days.
