Gareth Bale: the right man at the right time for Manchester United

Ever since that famous night in the San Siro, when Gareth Bale made Maicon, thought to be one of the world’s best full backs look like a novice, Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the Welshman. Now, with reports gathering that the club are set to launch a new world record bid in an attempt to land him, t he dream of seeing Gareth Bale playing for Manchester United could yet become a reality.

Let’s not kid ourselves here: we have only just entered into the chaos of this summer’s transfer window, with every name under the sun been linked to the club from the usual suspects of  Wesley Sneijder to Nicolas Gaitan. But when it comes to the rumours surrounding, you can’t help but feel there is some truth in them.

For years now the club have lacked a real world class winger. Nani could do a job on occasions, and the same can be said for Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young , but in all honesty, none of them have been good enough.

In Bale, we all know exactly what we would be getting; a genuine world class footballer who could take us on to the next level. There are few footballers out there who tick almost every box like the Welshman does (even Messi’s box remains unticked when it comes to being proven in the Premier League). The former Spurs player is also in the midst of lighting up this year’s European Championship with Wales, having notched two superb long-range free kicks in his country’s first two games.

With the Real Madrid forward arguably already in his peak years as a footballer at the age of 26, it makes a move even more appetising. From the club’s perspective, if there was ever more a perfect time to move to Manchester United, it would be now. The arrival of Jose Mourinho has brought a smile back onto the faces of the vast majority of the United faithful, the type of smile we haven’t seen since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson. You get the feeling that United are heading back in the right direction, and Bale will be fully aware of that.

Whether or not he makes the switch to Old Trafford this summer remains to be seen. There can be no doubt Real will use every trick in the book in a bid to keep their star man, but if there is one club out there that can tempt Gareth Bale away from the Spanish giants, it would be Manchester United.
