Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has spoken of his admiration for Jose Mourinho with the Portuguese’s appointment as the club’s new manager now confirmed.
Speaking to Manutd.com, Woodward had this to say: “José is quite simply the best manager in the game today. He has won trophies and inspired players in countries across Europe and, of course, he knows the Premier League very well, having won three titles here.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome him to Manchester United. His track record of success is ideal to take the Club forward.”
The news, speculated for months given United’s frustrating season under former boss Louis van Gaal gathered pace this week with the news that the Dutchman was relieved of his duties on Monday. The decision followed last Saturday’s FA Cup final victory over Crystal Palace but followed a bitterly disappointing season in which United finished 5th in the Premier League and crashed out of both European cup competitions.
