Wayne Rooney believes Marcus Rashford deserves all of the accolades and recognition that he has received throughout his incredible debut season at Manchester United, including his recent call-up to England’s Euro 2016 preliminary squad.
Rashford netted his eighth goal in 17 games during the final Barclays Premier League match of the 2015/16 season against Bournemouth on Tuesday, as the club signed off a disappointing season with a 3-1 victory.
The 18-year-old striker produced a lovely dummy for Rooney to open the scoring against the Cherries, before firing home a sublime second goal following great build-up play from his captain.
Rooney has been hugely impressed by what he’s seen from the Manchester-born forward to date, and says his excellent attitude has been key to success so far.
In an exclusive interview with MUTV, Rooney said “It has been great to see his attitude for a young lad. He has come in and listened to the manager and players and he has worked hard. He fully deserves his chance for Man Utd and now England.”
“He is in the England squad and I am sure he will give Roy Hodgson a difficult decision to make in terms of trying to get in the final 23.”
